The Volvo Cars app is a free mobile app designed to help Volvo drivers get more from their car, with features and content tailored to your specific model and its available software-based services. Previously known as the Volvo On Call app, it has since been updated and re-branded as the Volvo Cars app, and continues to benefit from ongoing development and refinement to improve your overall experience.

What is included in the Volvo Cars app?

The Volvo Cars app brings together a range of useful, user-friendly tools designed to enhance everyday life with your Volvo.

Through the app, you can check in on your vehicle wherever you are, lock or unlock the doors remotely, and warm or cool the cabin before you set off. For owners of fully electric or plug-in hybrid models, the app also includes helpful charging functions that can make managing energy use simpler and potentially more economical.

You’ll also have quick access to digital manuals, making it easy to look up information about your car whenever you need it. And should you require assistance, support is available directly through the app.

Please note that the features and services you see in the app will depend on your Volvo model and the options available in your local area.

Full content and features can be found here.

The app is free to download on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Android phones or tablets via the Apple App Store or Google Play. It’s updated regularly, so keep both the app and your device software up to date for the best experience. Simply scan the QR code to download the app.

Minimum device requirements:

  • iOS 16.4 or later
  • Android 8.0 or later

Creating a Volvo ID

You’ll need a Volvo ID to sign in to the Volvo Cars app. You can create one directly through the app or via the Volvo website. The steps vary depending on your Volvo’s model and model year, so be sure to follow the guidance relevant to your car.

  1. Open the Volvo Cars app or visit the Volvo ID sign-in page.
  2. Select Create Volvo ID.
  3. Enter a valid email address.
  4. Activate your account by following the instructions sent to your inbox.

Connecting the Volvo Cars app to your car

Pairing the Volvo Cars app links your phone to your vehicle for the first time. The steps may differ slightly depending on whether you’ve paired the app with another car before, so follow the instructions that match your situation.

How to pair the app with your car:

  1. Sign in to the Volvo Cars app using your Volvo ID.
  2. If this is your first time pairing any car, tap Add your car on the welcome screen.
  3. If you already use the app with another vehicle, go to Profile > Your cars > Add car.
  4. Enter your car’s VIN and follow the prompts in the app.

Note: Admin users: Sit in the driver’s seat with all available keys to set up the main (admin) profile. For additional drivers: Sit in the car with one key to connect as an extra user.

Re-pairing the Volvo Cars app

If you’ve previously paired the app with your car—or the original setup wasn’t finished—you can easily restart the process.

How to re-pair the app:

  1. Sign in to the Volvo Cars app with your Volvo ID.
  2. Go to Profile > Your cars.
  3. Select your vehicle, then choose Continue pairing.
  4. Pick the option that applies to you.
  5. Press Next and follow the steps shown in the app.

Enabling data sharing

The app needs permission to access vehicle data for features such as climate control and remote locking. On your car's centre display, go to:

Settings > Privacy > Volvo privacy settings > Volvo Cars app

Make sure data sharing is switched on.

Removing a car in the Volvo Cars app

Before selling your Volvo, it’s important to remove the car from the Volvo Cars app. Doing so deletes all related data from both the app and the vehicle. Simply uninstalling the app from your phone without removing the car can cause inconvenience for the next owner.

Admin/owner profiles: Removing a car from an admin or owner profile deletes all data linked to the car, including other connected drivers, and will automatically initiate a factory reset.

Other driver profiles: Removing a car only deletes your own access and profile; other users and data remain unaffected.

How to remove a car:

  1. Open the Volvo Cars app and go to Profile > Your cars.
  2. Select your car.
  3. Tap Remove car and follow the on-screen instructions.

Admin/owner profiles can manually perform a factory reset if it hasn’t already been triggered. This removes all paired phones, resets the car to factory settings, and deletes all stored data.

Unpairing a phone from the car

You can unpair phones via the Volvo Cars app or the car’s centre display.

For cars with software version 2.5 or later:

  1. On the centre display, go to Settings > Profiles > Volvo Cars app devices.
  2. Select the phone you want to unpair and tap Unpair this phone.

Other phones remain connected unless individually unpaired.
